We left Paris, bamboo earings trying to hitchhike to Nantes - a distance of four hours away. We removed the sign deletion prepared well in advance and in good faith we wrote Nante. See that we have a lot of experience hitchhiking, it's like standing up onto the highway with a sign that says "Eilat". Of course nobody stopped us - just a nice guy who offered us a change in the sign names of cities closer to the direction of Nantes. We advice, and achieved Saumur and Tour and hoped for the best. In fact we were there for an hour and a half, expect luxury cars with driver only pass us. After an hour and a half stopped a small car with two doors and a nice driver, who took us with huge files. Very crowded - but the ride. The way we told him we were trying to get to Nantes, and he told us he was going to do exactly. Bang! The car first (and only) led us stopped for four hours on the road toll motorway to our destination.
We were a little hungry, that was the last time we ate sandwiches in the afternoon so we thought to grab some fast food. Carolyn as a Polish mother worrier offered to cook us food french home. We went to the village and she cooked egg crepe filled with salty cheeses and vegetables. Was a treat, look for yourself:
The coolest thing is the workshop in Nantes Les machines de l'Îl This is a workshop set up by some artists and engineers who deal with building a giant mechanical beasts of wood and iron, that move just like a real animal. Their most famous creation, also became a symbol of Nantes is a giant wooden elephant every weekend goes round the square next to the workshop and takes people on his back. He not only moves like a real elephant, he also pours water trunk.
The workshop is located in a huge hangar used by the French Army in the past, and is open to visitors for a nominal fee. You can see the different animals move, the workshop and a film showing the construction process of these crazy animals began drawing model to build the frame, axes, wooden body and the final design.
The next morning we leave Nantes bamboo earings and catch rides towards Lyon, 700 km away. Did we're bamboo earings lucky as a ride to Nantes and Lyon is a lift right? Are the French will not stop us and wait an hour and a half? Or more? Will we see a giant spider on the building? All this and more in the next post ...
