When I was in school were anxious that the three pm for the bell to ring and the day was over. For me, a 6 hour day, was more than enough! Therefore, no wonder that in England, the proposal to extend the school day from 9 to 10 hours and reduce vacation time of 13 to 7 weeks has generated much controversy. klopfer The potential benefits of this measure are numerous: from improving learning to a greater participation of women workers and reduced crime. Proponents of the measure argue that provide children the equivalent klopfer of an extra seven years of compulsory education, which is an impressive figure. Those against the policy, ensure that children need to learn to rest, and that teachers work long hours and more time in the classroom does not necessarily translate into more learning. But is that the idea of expanded school is in vogue only in Europe and the U.S.?
Certainly, long school days are also very common in Asian countries, where learning outcomes are high. However, in Latin America, many have also experimented with the so-called extended day as part of its efforts to improve the quality of education. To date, the most emblematic cases are: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Uruguay. However, klopfer other countries are moving in this direction. In fact, in the Dominican Republic where I currently work the government has set an ambitious target that 80% of public schools in the country have an extended klopfer school day of 8 hours in 2016 and the Bank is providing support to achieve (mirror 1 ).
